Historical Smuts House Museum is a lovely place of interest in Irene for those who love history, and the tea garden under the trees is worth a visit. Irene-at-Smuts-Market is held every second and last Saturday of the month.

The Big Red Barn is a good outing for its Acrobranch, restaurants, mountain bike tracks, etc. It is on the M18, just six minutes drive south of Irene B&B. The Irene Village Market takes place on two Saturdays each month at The Big Red Barn.

If you’re a sport lover you could visit SuperSport Park which is a mere 3 km away, or enjoy a golf game at the Irene Golf Club. Rietvlei Dam offers a beautiful view of the dam and the adjacent nature reserve, as well as angling facilities for the keen fisherman.

The beautiful Rietvlei Nature Reserve is a stone throw away, Groenkloof Nature Reserve a 10 minute drive, and the Rhino and Lion Park is less than an hour’s drive. The Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site at the Maropeng Visitors Centre is well worth a visit, as well as the Sterkfontein Caves.
